Chris(Drake) Dracopoulos of Malden, Ma passed away on March 1,2016. Husband of the late Terry (Stavropoulos) Dracopoulos., who passed away October 6,2000, after their 53rd wedding anniversary. Son of late Charles , U.S. Army, WWI Veteran and late Mary(Psyharis), who migrated from Greece in the early 1900's and become permanent residents of Malden. Chris joined the Army Air Corps in May, 1943 and served in England with the 492nd and 491st Bomb Groups, 8th Air Force, 1944-1945. He was in charge of an 11- piece dance band, "The Rhythm Bombshells", was the drummer and vocalist, and ran weekly dances at the Base in North Pickenham from August 1944 through July 1945, when they left to come home on the Queen Mary a converted cruise ship.At home , in 1945, he formed a dance band, Chris Drake and his orchestra, ran dances in Malden and played at many functions throughout New England until 1950. His sales career began with the Malden Jewlery store as general manager, Capitol Records, New England Branch, then special Markets Divison of Northeastern Distributors, Boston from 1965 through 1991, when he retired.He was an advocate for blood Cancer research and the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation and he was involved in several U.S.Veterans projects in the greater Boston area.He was a life member and secretary of the 491st Bomb Group (H), Inc.,honorary life member of the Veterans Memorial Center, San Diego, CA , Charter Member 8th Air Force Museum, Savannah, GA. Menichios American Legion Post #324, Boston, Steward of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Boston and the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, Woburn He is survived by his daughter , Theodora (Dorri) of Malden, brothers James Drake of Manchester, NH,William of Portsmouth, NH, Sister in law Mary Catherine of Malden, and family of Cancun, Mexico and Spain, many nieces, nephews, and cousins from the USA and Greece. Chris is predeceased by his son Charles, also known professionally as Chuck Drake, musician and musical educator , graduate of the world famous Berklee of Music in Boston, his brother George, his sister Helen Pappas of Mexico, his brother-in-law Louis Pappas of Mexico, his sister-in-law Ellie Drake, and his late sister-in-law late Mandy Dracopoulos. Visitation will be held at the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox, 70 Montvale Ave., Woburn, one hour before the funeral service , on Saturday, March 12, 2016 from 11 to 12pm. Funeral services at 1pm. In lieu flowers , donations in his memory maybe made to the above named church building fund. Burial in Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden.
