Chris G.
Christopher
August 6, 1924 – February 23, 2024
Chris G. Christopher was born August 6, 1924 in Cambridge, Massachusetts to Greek immigrants George Christopher and Helen Christopher (nee Stephanou). He grew up in Cambridge attending public schools until enlisting in the Navy in October 1942. Chris served in the Mediterranean Sea during WWII participating in the Allied invasions of North Africa and Italy. After being honorably discharged in January 1946, Chris worked in his father's corner grocery in Cambridge. He married his war-time penpal Marion in June 1947 and the following year started a family that eventually included a girl and three boys. Chris sold life insurance in the Boston area for Prudential Insurance Company before uprooting to Bristol, Connecticut in 1960 to sell pharmaceuticals for E.R. Squibb & Sons. In 1966, Chris was promoted to an executive position in Squibb's New York City headquarters and moved the family to East Brunswick, New Jersey. He continued his successful career at Squibb headquarters in NYC and Lawrenceville, NJ until retiring in 1986. In 1988, Chris and his wife Marion moved to New Hampshire where they enjoyed their lovely home in the country and their participation in the Greek Orthodox Church. In 2005, Chris and Marion returned to NJ to be closer to family. Marion passed away August 13, 2012. Chris was blessed to be healthy enough to remain in his Spotswood home until he passed peacefully February 23, 2024.
Over the years, Chris had many interests including travel, gardening, golf, jogging, tennis and reading historical non-fiction. He always enjoyed his happy hour with a plate of veggies and a martini or glass of wine. He also enjoyed watching baseball and football – he was a fan of baseball's Braves going back to when they resided in Boston, and he could get into a game for a nickel. In his younger days he frequently attended Boston Bruins hockey games and remained a lifelong fan.
Chris was predeceased by his parents George and Helen, his wife Marion, his oldest son Stephen (aka Chico), his sisters Irene and Mary, and his brother Michael. Chris leaves a loving family; sister Stella Papadakis of Wyomissing PA; son Michael Christopher and wife Marlene of Jackson NJ, daughter Ellen Conroy and husband Mark of Middletown NJ, son Mark Christopher and wife Lynne of Warrenton VA; grandchildren Chad and wife Kristin, Clint and wife Emily, Casey, Devan and husband Nick, and Olivia; great grandchildren Luke and Troy
Special thanks to the medical professionals and caregivers who took great care of Chris in his last few years and to Compassionate Care Hospice.
