Charles Marken, 88 of Southboro, MA formerly of Wayland and Newton, MA passed away peacefully on December 6, 2023 surrounded by his family.
He was a graduate of Newton High School with honors, a graduate of Newton Jr College, and fluent in Greek. He knew how to bring everyone together and was loved by all.
One of his proudest achievements was being a founding member of the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church. In 1994, he received an award for parishioner of the year by the Diocese of Boston. He was also president of the Marlboro Chapter of AHEPA (American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association).
In his youth, he enjoyed playing Newton High School Football, being an active member of DeMolay, a Master Mason, and a Shriner.
As our father, he enjoyed family trips to see Boston museums and historical sites, the mountains and attractions of New Hampshire, Cape Cod, upstate New York, and many others. He loved helping out his sons with sports such as baseball and soccer and teaching them how to take care of their cars and equipment.
He was born in Boston, MA to the late Anthony and Sophia Marken and is survived by his sons Stephen, Christopher (wife Denise), and Andrew. He is also survived by his sister Katherine Kriketos and has many nephews and nieces.
He is preceded in death by his wife Alexandra (Mina) Marken and brothers George and Demosthenes Marken.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 11, 2023 at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 57 Brown Street, Weston, MA at 10:00 am. Visitation prior to the Funeral Service from 9 AM to 10 AM at the church. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations to his memory may be made to St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church. Burial will be at Newton Cemetery.
