Charles "Konstantinos" Canelos's Obituary

Charles "Konstantinos" Canelos (June 17, 1935 - September 14, 2025), of North Falmouth, MA, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family – just the way he wanted it.

Born in the small village of Psathi, Megalopoli, Greece, Charlie brought to America a heart full of tradition, grit and generosity. He was the beloved son of the late Apostolos and Anastasia (Maniatis) Canelos.

Charlie arrived in the U.S. in the early 1950s chasing the American dream, and along the way, built a life full of love, laughter and legendary Greek hospitality. In 1970, he returned to Greece to marry his devoted wife, Vasiliki Zarbis. Together they settled in Westwood, MA, where they raised two sons, Paul and Chris. He and Vasiliki built a home overflowing with food, love and family.

For over 40 years, Charlie demonstrated an admirable work ethic as the proud proprietor of the Pig 'N Whistle Diner in Brighton, MA – a local institution where coffee flowed, friendships formed and everyone knew Charlie (aka 'Slow'). He retired in 2002, trading in his apron for gardening gloves and fishing rods. Charlie and Vasiliki moved to North Falmouth to enjoy the quieter joys of retirement, near his children and grandchildren.

Charlie loved family and found his greatest happiness as a Baba and Papou. Whether he was fishing, tending to his tomato plants, Greek dancing, or sipping ouzo (with three ice cubes!) while reading his newspaper, he did it all with heart. Charlie leaves behind a rich legacy of love, laughter and one-liners. His family still hears his voice saying, "I'll see you when I see you!"or his signature "Hubba, hubba!" – accompanied with a smile.

Charlie was the loving father of Paul Canelos and his wife, Jen, of Van Meter, IA and Chris Canelos and his wife, Ana, of North Falmouth, MA.

He was the cherished Papou of Joey Canelos and his wife Jessica, Olivia, Sam, Sia, Sofia and Cecilia Canelos. He showered them with his unwavering love – whether it was playing cops and robbers or enjoying a fairytale, princess tea party with his girls.

Left to honor his memory, are his many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends both here and in Greece.

Charlie was the beloved brother of Toula Karafotias, Eleni Economopoulos, and Kiki Mitaras, all of whom predeceased him.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025, at 11AM at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 1130 Falmouth Road, Centerville, MA, with visitation beginning at 10AM at the church. All who knew and loved him are kindly invited to attend.
