Bill "Vassilis" Evangelakos's Obituary

In Loving Memory of Bill ("Vassilis") Evangelakos April 17, 1933 – May 30, 2025

With deep sadness and love, the family of Bill Evangelakos announces his peaceful passing on May 30,  2025, at the age of 92.

Bill was born on April 17, 1933, in the small village of Finiki, in Lakonia, Greece, near the historic city of Sparta. From a young age, Bill embodied a strong sense of adventure and determination. He moved to Athens at a young age to pursue his education and then later to serve proudly in the Hellenic Air Force.

In 1957 Bill immigrated to Montreal, Canada. A year later, in 1958, he married the love of his life, Eleni, and together they began a life marked by hard work, perseverance, and devotion to family. He began what would become a long and successful career in the restaurant industry—a path defined by long hours, a strong work ethic, and a genuine passion for serving others.

In 1971, Bill and his family relocated to Brookline, Massachusetts, where he resided for the rest of his life. Over the decades, he opened and operated numerous successful restaurants in the greater Boston area. Beloved by customers and respected by industry peers, Bill's warmth, integrity, and dedication earned him lasting friendships and a well-deserved retirement in 1988.

Though proud of his professional achievements, Bill's true joy came from time spent with his family and friends. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he cherished family gatherings, storytelling, and sharing a glass of Scotch or wine with visitors. His grandchildren will forever remember his warm smile and the special treats he would bring—spinach pie, baklava, and other homemade Greek delicacies.

Bill was also a proud and active member of the Greek Political Club in Cambridge and a passionate follower of Greek politics, staying engaged and informed throughout his life.

Bill was an enthusiastic Rotarian for many years and received the Paul Harris Fellow Award in recognition for exceptional service to Rotary International

Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Eleni Evangelakos; his sons John Evangelakos and his wife Deborah, Charles Evangelakos and his wife Margaret; his grandchildren Lee Evangelakos and her husband Richard Lee, William Evangelakos and his wife Annie, Daniel Evangelakos and his wife Becky, Quinn Evangelakos, Emily Evangelakos, Edward Evangelakos, and Tara Smith and her husband Michael; and his great-grandchildren Sebastian Lee, Ike Lee, and Myles Smith. He is also survived by his brother, Demetri Evangelakos, in Greece.

A celebration of Bill's life will be held on Friday, June 6th, at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 514 Parker Avenue, Boston, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, followed immediately by his funeral service and burial. A memorial luncheon will be hosted by the family following the burial at the Cathedral Brookline Center Function Hall, 162 Goddard Avenue, Brookline, MA at 1PM. All family and friends are warmly invited to attend. The funeral service will be live-streamed. Please go to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OexcEW-Kjll.
