Betty Ann Vlachos's Obituary

Betty Ann (Knell) Vlachos, of Kingston, MA, formally a long-time resident of Watertown and East Bridgewater, MA, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2021. Daughter of the late Walter and Annie (Elliott) Knell. Adored wife of John J. Vlachos.  Devoted mother of Doreen Keyes and her husband Andrew, of Marlborough, Leslie Bastarache and her husband Maurice, of Wayland, John Vlachos and his wife Gail, of Woburn, and Christopher Vlachos and his wife Michelle, of Kingston.  Betty was a devoted and loving grandmother of Jonathan and Brendan Keyes, Zachary, Juliette and Lucas Bastarache, Johnny and Christina Vlachos and Meredith, Madisen and Mackenzie Vlachos.

Sister of Warren Knell and his wife Marylou, and the late Robert and Cathy Knell, and the late Lloyd and Marjorie Knell, the late Richard and Beverly Knell, the late Shirley and Harry Cornick, the late Irving Knell and the late David and Jean Knell.  Betty was the cherished sister-in-law of the late Theodore Vlachos, the late George Vlachos, Elaine Vlachos, Joy Vlachos O'Malley, Dorothy Vlachos Contos, her husband Harris and Harry Vlachos and his wife Stacey Agretelis.  Betty is also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Betty graduated from Watertown High School and married her beloved husband, John on September 12, 1954. Thus, began a sixty-seven-year love story! They loved to travel, spend time with friends, and worked side by side for decades in the family restaurant, The Waltham Spa.

Betty was very creative and loved to draw, paint and do crafts. She was especially known for her crocheting talents and made hundreds of beautiful afghans for family and friends throughout the years. And nobody made chocolate chip cookies or Swedish meatballs quite like her!

What gave Betty the most joy though, was being with her husband, children and her treasured grandchildren, who loved their Nanny's quick wit and gentle spirit.

Betty, Mom, Nanny will be forever in our hearts.

She earned her wings!
