Bernardus G
Hoek
February 24, 1932 – August 20, 2020
Bernardus "Ben'' G. Hoek, 88, of Sherborn, Massachusetts, formerly of Sunnyvale California, passed away peacefully at The Stanley Tippett Hospice Home, Needham Massachusetts, on Thursday, August 20, 2020. Ben was born in Hengelo, The Netherlands, on February 24, 1932, to Bernardus J. and Bertha (Beernink) Hoek. He met the love of his life, Ali (Vanderlaan), and, in 1957, they were married and blessed with a son, Franciscus "Frank" Hoek. The three immigrated to the USA, where they settled in Salt Lake City, Utah. In 1962, they were blessed with a second son, Bernardus "Benno" Hoek. In 1964, the family relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area. Ali passed away in 1989. Ben started a new journey after marrying Lucy (Hoefnagel) Hoek. Ben worked in the retail industry until his retirement in 1995. In Ben's retirement, he loved photography and traveling with Lucy. Ben and Lucy cherished embarking on journeys that led them to picturesque locations where Ben spent hours capturing beautiful images of family, friends, nature, birds, and lighthouses. He was an honest, kind-hearted, humble and caring man. His children and all who knew and loved him will miss him greatly. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Lucy (lives in Sunnyvale CA). He was the devoted father of Frank and his wife Diana (MA) and was the loving Opa of their children grandson William (NY), granddaughter Ashley (France) and her husband Dale Wahl. Devoted father of Benno and his life's partner Larissa Clark (CA). Lucy's children and grandchildren will also miss Ben. Lucy's children include Linda Nunez (CA), Shelley (VA) and her husband Iain Waye, and Eric (CA) and his wife Amy Bartelink. Ben is also survived by his three sisters, who live in the Netherlands, Riet Poelman, Femy Adolfs, and Yvonne Velthuis and her husband Leo. Many nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends also survive Ben. As a result of the ongoing health crisis in our world and love and concern of our family and friends, Ben's funeral service will be a celebration of his life that will be held at a date to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Julia Ruth House, 199 Canton St, Westwood, MA 02090 in Ben's memory. May he rest in peace.
