Athanasios "Thanasi" Metropoulos, of Lynn, Mass., passed away early Friday morning, December 16, 2016. He born in Loganikos (Sparti), Greece on February 4, 1925. He was a loving father and grandfather and always made everyone laugh. He enjoyed going back to Greece each year where he would spend his time going on walks and swimming at Kalamata Beach with his family. He was also a veteran of the Greek Civil War having served from 1946-1949 for the Greek Army. He is survived by his wife of 66 years Demetra (Hatzis) Metropoulos, his sons George Metropoulos of Lynn, Nick Metropoulos and his wife Kay, of North Reading, and daughter Stella Kelliher and her husband Steve, of North Reading along with his grandchildren Thanasi and Alexis Metropoulos and Julia Kelliher. Visiting hours on Sun. Dec. 18, 2016 at Solimine Funeral Home, 426 Broadway (Rte 129), Lynn, MA from 3PM to 7PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Hellenic Cardiac Fund at Children's Children's Hospital, 300 Longwood Ave., Boston, MA .
