Arthur
Tzouvelis
December 23, 1937 – November 4, 2025
Arthur (Athanasios) Tzouvelis, 87, of Watertown passed away peacefully on November 4, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Dyrrachi, Arcadias, Greece on Dec. 23, 1937, the second child and only son of Hariklia and Demetrios Tzouvelis.
Arthur was a selfless, hardworking human being who sacrificed and gave so much to those he cared about; the pillar of his close-knit family who he prioritized before anything else. From a young age, Arthur learned the value of family, responsibility, and hard work. He had six sisters, Vanetia, Voula, Yianoula, Eugenia, and the late Panagiota and Angela.
He married Irini Kefalas on May 9, 1965, and came to America the same year, first settling in Cambridge, then Watertown. He leaves behind his three children, James, Haroula and Esmerelda, daughter-in-law Joanna, son-in-law Peter Varsamis and eight grandchildren, Arthur, Annette, and Angelica Tzouvelis; Victoria and Irene Varsamis; Michael, Demetri and Andrew Ciano.
He also leaves behind his sister-in-laws, Georgia Tziavas, Maria Pavilidis and Vasiliki Kefalas of Watertown and brother-in-law, Peter Kefalas of Tarpon Springs, Florida, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends in Massachusetts, Chicago and Greece.
According to one of his cousins, Arthur was known as a "Levendi," which is the Greek word for "a handsome, brave, and gallant man. "Another cousin describes Arthur as a good, honest man who was very proud of his children and grandchildren and did everything for his family and only wanted the best for them.
He came to America with nothing and became successful by working hard at Nabisco in Cambridge.
Arthur loved entertaining and celebrating birthdays, name days and holidays with his family. Easter was by far, his favorite time of year. He was an expert at preparing and cooking the lamb on the "souvla" for the feast.
He loved his village and family in Dyrrachi and visited as often as he could. In his younger years, he was an active member of the Dyrrachi Society.
Up until this past year, Arthur loved volunteering for the Taxiarchae Greek Orthodox annual festival. In his spare time, Arthur enjoyed meeting with friends for coffee at Dunkin Donuts in Belmont and Watertown.
He will be deeply missed, and his memory will live on through the love he gave and the lives he touched.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at 12 Noon at Taxiarchae Greek Orthodox Church, 25 Bigelow Avenue, Watertown. Visitation prior to the Service from 11 a.m. to 12 Noon at the church. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the above-named church. Burial in Ridgelawn Cemetery, Watertown, MA.
