Douvris
June 15, 1929 – January 18, 2024
Artemisia (Kazis) Douvris of West Roxbury, MA, passed away peacefully with family by her side at a nursing facility in Franklin on January 18, 2024 at age 94.
Born in 1929 in the small village of Vassara, Sparta, Greece, the daughter Elias Kazis and Stavoula (Sakellaris) Kazis.
Beloved wife of the late George Douvris. Loving mother of Athanasios (Thanasi) and and his wife Vasiliki (Vaso) and Lou(Louie) Douvris and his wife Ann. Cherished grandmother of Artemis, Nikki, Victoria and Gregory. Devoted sister of Helen Serevetas, the late Anargyros (Jerry) Kazis and the late Vasiliki(Bessy) Koufos.
Artemisia and her husband, George immigrated to the United States in 1962 seeking a better life their family and was always grateful for the opportunities that her adopted home offered. Employed in the shoe manufacturing industry for many years and finished her working career with the Polaroid Corporation when she retired. She loved to cook for friends and family while enjoying their company. With yummy recipes like spanakopita, it was hard to have just one piece and she often made sure you had didn't leave empty handed.
Artemisia loved gardening and, together with George, had one of the largest vegetable and flower gardens in the neighborhood making sure that friends, family and neighbors had plenty of fresh veggies and fresh cut bouquets. Many have said that if Artemisia planted it, it not only grew but it thrived.
A person of strong Christian faith, she regularly attended St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church of Roslindale and volunteered in many parish events. She so loved the church, its mission, and the parish community.
Funeral Service on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church, 39 Belgrade Avenue, Roslindale, MA at 12 Noon. Visitation prior to the Service from 11AM to 12 Noon at the church. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
Burial in The Gardens Cemetery, West Roxbury, MA.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church, 39 Belgrade Ave., Roslindale, MA 02131.
