Aphrodite
Fisher
February 2, 1932 – July 7, 2025
Aphrodite "Freda" (Faggas) Fisher, 93, of Greenville, Rhode Island formerly of Coventry, Rhode Island passed away peacefully on July 7, 2025.
Freda was born and raised in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She attended Cambridge public schools and after graduation, she got a job at New England Telephone Company. She met her husband Robert J. Fisher and they married and moved to Coventry, Rhode Island.
She got a job at the Providence, Rhode Island office of the phone company which was bought out by New York Telephone Company and then Verizon. She had one son, Robert W. Fisher and continued working at the Providence branch of the phone company in the accounting office. She loved her job and had many friends from Boston to Rhode Island.
In 1978 her son Robert passed away unexpectedly due to a rare childhood heart condition. Freda was devastated to say the least. She continued through life with courage, grace and determination.
After her retirement, she volunteered at the Coventry Senior Center everyday until she was well into her 80's. She never missed a day. She would often walk to the Senior Center and the staff were kind enough to drive her home every day. She enjoyed the young adults at Project Friends and she made so many dear friends while volunteering at the Senior Center. She would bake her famous brownies and Greek cookies to share with everyone at the senior center. She truly has a heart of gold. Freda also volunteered on the election committee for Senator Jack Reed. She was always willing to help wherever she was needed.
Freda was the most selfless, kind, caring and generous person. She made many lasting friendships while volunteering.
Everyone who knew Freda was pretty fortunate. If she wasn't volunteering at the senior center she would be at home making telephone calls to all of her family and friends. She never forgot a birthday or special occasion.
In February of 2022 she celebrated her 90th birthday and was so humbled by the outpouring of friends and family that came to help her celebrate this milestone with her . She had guests from her childhood, the senior center, neighbors, old friends and new friends.
She enjoyed her flower garden, reading and caring for her cat "Kitty". She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
She was predeceased by her devoted husband Robert J. Fisher and her beloved son Robert W. Fisher. Daughter of the late George and Polexini (Kokanakis) Faggas.
