Anastasios
Moshonisiou
May 19, 1929 – January 13, 2022
Anastasios "Ernie" Moshonisiou passed away peacefully at his home in Andover, MA on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at the age of 92, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Pamfila, Greece and served in the Hellenic Navy before immigrating to the United States in 1956. He married his wife, Elene, in 1959 and they raised their three daughters Elene, Pauline and Barbara in Arlington, MA.
Anastasios began his career in the U.S. at French Shriner Shoe Company before opening a small luncheonette with his wife. He then followed his passion of landscaping, becoming a committed employee of Spaulding & Slye at New England Executive Park in Burlington, MA, where he eventually became the Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds. He was proud of the fact that he earned his master pipefitter license. Upon his retirement, a bronze plaque was dedicated in his honor and remains in the park to this day. Anastasios was a devout member of the Greek Orthodox Church, and was a former President of the Island of Lesvos Association of New England.
Anastasios was truly devoted to his family and treasured his many friendships. He generously helped many other families with their immigration sponsorship from Greece to the U.S. He loved The Cape where he built a beautiful home, and enjoyed the beach, ocean, and fishing. Many hours were spent tending to his prized garden. Anastasios cherished his walks with his grand-dogs Thor & Cyril, Boomer, and Chance. With a contagious smile and a twinkle in his eye, he regaled many with his memorable storytelling. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew him.
Anastasios was pre-deceased by his middle daughter, Pauline (Bouboulis), wife Elene (Martakis), and son-in-law Nikolaos (Kasseris). He is survived by his daughters Elene (Viscosi) and Barbara (Kasseris); grandchildren Michael and wife Alexandra (Viscosi), Stacey and husband Randy (Belcher), Peter (Kasseris), Pauline and husband Jonathan (Mohs), and Elene (Kasseris); and his great grandchildren Ella, Niko, Christian, Teddy and Ariana.
Private services with immediate family were held at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Woburn, MA and he was laid to rest at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, MA.
Donations in his memory can be made to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 70 Montvale Ave., Woburn, MA, 01801 or to the charity of one's choice.
