Agathi Z. Stratis's Obituary

Agathi Z. Stratis, of Arlington, MA formerly of Somerville, MA. Loving aunt of Eustathios, Evmorphia, Zachary, and goddaughter Theodora Stratis and her husband Alexander Pancic. Cherished great-aunt (Big Theia) to Zoe and Leonidas Pancic. Beloved cousin and friend. Predeceased by her parents Zafeirios and Mary (Evmorphia Kerassites) and brothers Ralph, Michael, and Costas Stratis. Due to church construction and Covid concerns, there will be no meal after the burial. We hope to create a celebration of life gathering at a future date.

Agathi was a people person, supportive, curious and kind, loving and loyal to her family and friends, always extending a helping hand. A lifelong member of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Church, you could find her seated beneath the stained glass window of The Woman at the Well donated by her uncle Hercules and aunt Agatha Kerassites. She was a loving niece and goddaughter to her aunt Vasiliki Philips (Kerassites) and very close to her cousins and their children. She worked for a photographer, became an accomplished photographer herself, was a bank teller for many years, and completed her professional career as a financial reviewer in the MA public welfare department.

Her love of travel took her to many countries including Greece, Turkey, Israel, Egypt, Ireland, Portugal, and France. She enjoyed visiting or hosting family and many friends; she wrapped her bountiful gifts exquisitely and reveled in the company of children. (We all remember being called squirt or wise guy and having our cheeks pinched.)

Agathi contracted TB as a teenager and spent an entire year in a sanitorium. Surgery left her with a fused knee, but she never complained, expressed no regrets and nothing stopped her. The only thing she couldn't do was ride a bike.

With her smile, her laugh, her sense of style, her delicious cooking (halva she made well into her eighties), Agathi was slow and steady and always in the moment.

We will miss her. Many thanks to the staff at the Memory Unit at Cadbury Commons and Sawtelle House Hospice for their considerate care, and eternal gratitude to Cheyenne McCarter LICSW for her kind, gentle and superior management of Agathi's health and care these last years. Funeral Service on Friday, April 15, 2022 at The Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 29 Central Street, Somerville, MA at 10:30AM.
